Key takeaways
- Claude Duet brings background work, existing Claude context and proactive updates into a dedicated app.
- It belongs in the same conversation as Grok Bot and ChatGPT dots, although the products differ in access, controls and how they organize work.
- My standard is whether an agent reduces the effort of managing the work, including the checking and follow-up.
- Duet is an early research preview. Its announced capabilities deserve attention; its reliability still needs to be established through use.
My view
Is Claude Duet Anthropic’s answer to Grok Bot and ChatGPT dots? That is how I read it. Anthropic has not described its competitive intent that way, but the direction is clear enough to discuss.
These products are built around an expectation that AI will carry work forward between conversations. It remembers context, checks connected systems, prepares something useful and returns when there is a result or a decision.
As an operator, that is the part I care about.
Accepting a long assignment is useful. Keeping it moving without repeated explanations, reminders and rescue work is where the value becomes much more significant. I want to know whether the system caught what mattered, used the right information and brought back something I can act on.
Claude Duet is worth watching because Anthropic is putting those behaviors into a product designed for professionals and small business owners. Its October 21 announcement describes morning briefs, background work, connected business apps and approval checkpoints.
At Nova3, this strengthens the case for starting with the capabilities a business already has available. Sometimes the right answer is to configure a supplied product. Sometimes it needs better connections or a more specific workflow. A custom build should earn its place through the work it enables.
The opportunity is substantial. The operating standard should remain concrete: what responsibility are we handing over, and what will count as finished?
What Claude Duet brings
October 21, 2026 · Anthropic
Duet has its own cloud computer and browser, so work can continue after you close the app. It carries over memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account. It can produce research briefs, financial models, presentations and dashboards, and use websites without a dedicated connector.
Its proactive behavior includes a morning brief and periodic checks of connected accounts. Anthropic says it is designed to seek approval before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting anything. Launch announcement
My operational read: Start with a responsibility whose result is easy to inspect. Preparing meeting briefs or assembling unpaid-invoice reminders gives an owner something useful to review. The meaningful test includes how much clarification, correction and follow-up the assignment requires.
There is also a helpful distinction in the product: Duet can suggest that a task looks finished, but only the user can mark it complete. A prepared email and a resolved customer issue are different outcomes. Duet help documentation
Where it fits beside Grok Bot and ChatGPT dots
| Product | Emphasis in its official description |
|---|---|
| Claude Duet | Existing Claude context, proactive updates and background work in an ongoing relationship with the user. |
| Grok Bot | Multiple bots that can coordinate, work across applications and learn recurring workflows. |
| ChatGPT dots | Persistent assistance across ChatGPT, Slack and Teams, with a cloud computer whose work the user can inspect. |
These are differences in documented product design, not a performance ranking. Sources: Claude Duet, Grok Bot, ChatGPT dots.
What needs to stay in view
Duet currently requires a US Pro or Max account and an invitation from its waitlist. Team and Enterprise access are not available yet.
Background work consumes the same Claude usage limits as other activity. Account checks happen at intervals, so urgent developments can arrive between checks. Duet cannot see every project or local file, and users cannot yet watch or take over its browser. Microsoft 365 support is not available yet.
Those boundaries matter when deciding what responsibility to give it. Anthropic also acknowledges that Duet can misread a thread or misjudge urgency. Current access and limitations
Questions this edition answers
Is Claude Duet a bot?
Anthropic calls it a proactive agent. In everyday business language, it performs many of the jobs people mean when they ask for a bot: ongoing assistance, background tasks and updates without a fresh prompt for every step.
Can it work while my computer is off?
Yes, according to Anthropic. It uses its own hosted computer. Access, usage limits and the connected tools still determine what it can accomplish.
Should a business switch platforms for it?
I would start with a defined responsibility and inspect the result. Switching platforms creates its own work. The product should demonstrate enough value in that responsibility to justify the change.
What is Nova3 watching?
Whether these agents reduce the total burden of getting work finished. That includes the time spent explaining, checking, correcting and chasing it.
