30 Days of AI | DAY 13
If you only read one of my 30-day AI series posts, make it this one.
It’s day 13 of 30, let’s go!
In just a few minutes, you’ll walk away with three powerful strategies to dramatically improve your AI interactions—no advanced skills required.
These are the same techniques I’ve used to help business owners, coaches, teachers, and more get the most out of AI with minimal effort.
Let’s dive in.
The AI Power Prompts Framework: Deep Dive Prompting, Gap Guarding, and Seeking Serendipity
I’ve developed the AI Power Prompts Framework to quickly enhance AI outputs without needing endless iterations.
Let me walk you through the three key techniques: Deep Dive Prompting, Gap Guarding, and Seeking Serendipity.
1. Deep Dive Prompting
Sometimes, even after crafting a detailed prompt, the AI’s response may feel a bit shallow. Deep Dive Prompting is your follow-up tool to ensure the AI provides the depth and nuance you need.
The Strategy:
When the AI’s response is too basic, use a follow-up prompt to guide it into delivering a detailed, multi-layered analysis with granular insights, examples, and relevant context.
The Adaptable Prompt:
“Provide a detailed, multi-layered analysis with granular insights, examples, and relevant context.”
Why It Works:
• Maximizes Depth: This prompt ensures the AI digs deeper into the subject matter, exploring it thoroughly and providing the detail you need.
• Maintains Relevance: By specifying “relevant context,” you direct the AI to stay focused on information that is directly applicable and useful, ensuring the response aligns with your specific needs.
• Saves Time: This approach minimizes the need for multiple follow-up prompts, helping you get the depth and clarity you’re looking for more efficiently.
Note: While you could start with a prompt like this, it’s often more effective to begin with a broader prompt and see how the AI responds.
This gives you flexibility and helps establish the right context before diving deeper. Plus, starting more generally allows for iterative learning and refinement, which can uncover unexpected insights or directions.
2. Gap Guarding
Even when the AI provides a strong output, there can still be gaps—missing details that aren’t immediately obvious. Gap Guarding ensures the content is complete and aligned with best practices.
The Strategy:
After receiving your initial AI output, prompt the AI to perform a gap analysis, comparing the content against industry best practices, standards, and potential improvements.
The Adaptable Prompt:
“Perform a thorough gap analysis against industry best practices, standards, and potential improvements.”
Why It Works:
• Ensures Completeness: Gap Guarding helps you identify and fill any missing elements or overlooked details, ensuring your final product is comprehensive and robust.
• Builds Confidence: This step gives you assurance that your content aligns with best practices and covers all necessary areas, reducing the risk of omissions.
• Improves Quality: By ensuring that the output is fully aligned with standards, this approach acts as a quality check, making your final document more reliable and polished.
3. Seeking Serendipity
After you’ve covered depth and completeness, there’s still one more step that can add unexpected value to your AI interactions. Seeking Serendipity is about asking the AI for a final touch—an insight or idea that wasn’t directly prompted but could add valuable depth or a fresh perspective.
The Strategy:
Once you feel the output is complete, prompt the AI to provide an unexpected insight or creative idea that wasn’t immediately obvious.
The Adaptable Prompt:
“Provide an unexpected insight or creative idea from this discussion.”
Why It Works:
• Encourages Creative Thinking: This prompt nudges the AI to think outside the box, offering an insight that could bring a new dimension to your work.
• Uncovers Hidden Value: By asking for an unexpected insight, you often discover something valuable that wasn’t initially apparent, adding another layer of richness to the output.
• Complements the First Two Strategies: While Deep Dive Prompting and Gap Guarding focus on thoroughness and completeness, Seeking Serendipity invites an element of creative exploration, ensuring you capture all possible value from the interaction.
Why These Strategies Are Essential
These three strategies help you quickly and effectively improve AI outputs without getting stuck in a cycle of endless tweaking. Deep Dive Prompting ensures you get the depth you need, Gap Guarding makes sure nothing crucial is left out, and Seeking Serendipity adds that final touch of unexpected insight.
Together, they maximize the potential of AI tools, making them accessible and effective, even if you’re new to the game.
So, the next time your AI response falls short, don’t get stuck in a cycle of endless iterations. Instead, use these strategies to get the most out of your AI tools, transforming them into an indispensable ally in your daily work.
